Excavators are big machines that dig and move dirt, like a super-digger for construction projects.
Imagine you have a big sandbox in your backyard. You want to make a hole for a treasure map. You could use a shovel, but it would take forever. Now imagine instead you had a giant digging friend who could scoop up all the sand at once! That’s what an excavator does, but with seven different types that are each good for special jobs.
The Big Digger
The most common kind is like your giant digging friend, it has a big arm and bucket. It digs into the ground and lifts the dirt out, like you lifting sand from one side of the sandbox to the other. This type is used when you need to move a lot of dirt quickly.
The Smaller Helpers
Some excavators are smaller and more flexible. They can dig in tight spaces or do delicate jobs, like moving soft soil gently so nothing gets broken, just like how you might use a small spoon to scoop out a hole for your favorite toy.
Examples
- A small excavator digs holes for planting trees in a park.
- An excavator moves dirt to build a road.
- Excavators help clear land before building houses.
