Using Stars in the Sky
Your phone talks to satellites high above. This helps it find its exact spot outside. But satellites can be slow or blocked by buildings.
Listening to Wi-Fi
Even inside your house, your phone hears nearby Wi-Fi routers. Each router has a unique ID card. By checking which IDs are loud and clear, the phone knows you are likely in that room.
Counting Cell Towers
Your phone also listens for signals from cell towers. These are big antennas near roads. If the phone hears one tower strongly and another weakly, it can guess its distance. Combining all these clues helps your map work perfectly.
Examples
- Your blue dot appears instantly in a supermarket without waiting for satellites.
- The map works even when you are underground on the subway train.
