What are cellular towers?

Cellular towers are tall buildings that help your phone talk to other phones far away.

Imagine you have a toy telephone, and you want to call your friend who lives across town. If there’s no phone line, your voice can’t travel all the way by itself. That's where cellular towers come in, they act like big helpers that catch your voice and send it on its way.

Think of a cellular tower as a lighthouse for phones. Just like a lighthouse sends light to guide ships, a cellular tower sends signals to help phones find each other. When you talk on the phone, your phone sends out a message, and the nearest tower catches it, then it passes that message along to the person you're calling.

If there was just one lighthouse in town, ships far away might not see it very well. Similarly, if there were only one cellular tower, your phone signal would get weak when you’re far from it. That's why we have many towers, they work together to make sure your phone stays connected no matter where you are.
