How are FIFA world rankings calculated and updated?

FIFA world rankings are like a scoreboard that tells which football teams are the strongest right now.

Imagine you're playing a game with your friends. Every time you play, you get points based on how well you do, if you win, you get more points than if you lose. FIFA does something similar but for all the national football teams in the world.

Every team gets points after each match they play. If a team wins against another team, they get more points than the team that lost. Sometimes, depending on how good the teams are, the number of points changes, like if you beat someone who’s really strong, you get even more points!

FIFA updates these rankings every month, looking at all the matches played in the last few months. It's kind of like a report card that gets updated regularly so everyone knows who is doing well and who might be improving.

Sometimes teams play against each other multiple times, it’s like having several rounds of your game with friends, and each time, they earn or lose points based on how they do.

That’s why the rankings go up or down, because they're always watching how every team performs!
