What Makes a Political System ‘Democratic’ or ‘Authoritarian’?

Democracy is like a classroom where everyone gets to vote on what happens next. Authoritarianism is more like having one teacher who decides everything, and no one else gets to speak up.

In a democracy, people choose their leaders through elections. In an authoritarian system, the leader stays in power for a long time, sometimes forever, without needing approval from others.
