Your eyes are like magical cameras that can switch between day and night mode. When you go from bright light to the dark, your eyes start working harder to catch every tiny bit of light. It takes a little time for them to get used to the dark, but once they do, you can see much better, just like switching on a nightlight in a room.
Examples
- Walking into a dark room after being outside on a sunny day feels like stepping into a magic show, at first, everything is blurry, but soon you can see the shapes of your friends.
- When you wake up in the middle of the night, it takes a few minutes before you can find your way to the kitchen, that’s your eyes adjusting to the dark!
- It’s easier to spot a faint star on a cloudy night after waiting for a while, your eyes are getting used to the dark!
