You hate the sound of your own voice because it feels weird when you hear it, like it's not really you.
Imagine you're talking to a friend, and you're using a microphone. Your voice goes into the microphone, then it travels through wires or air to a speaker, and your friend hears it clearly. But when you use a microphone and hear yourself through a speaker, it feels strange because you’re used to hearing your own voice inside your head, not coming out of a loudspeaker like it's from a robot.
How it sounds different
When you talk normally, the sound goes through your head first. It’s softer and more familiar, like talking to yourself in a cozy room. But when you hear it on a speaker, it's louder and funnier, like someone is shouting from another room.
That’s why sometimes, when you record yourself and play it back, you think, “Why does my voice sound so weird?”, because your brain is used to hearing it in a different way!
