Why Do Money Trees Have Trunks?

A money tree is not a real tree that grows dollars. It is a special kind of plant with a thick trunk. Most plants have one straight stem. A money tree has several stems woven together like a braid.

The Braid

This braid makes the trunk strong and curly. People think this shape brings good luck. You can buy them at the store already braided. Some people wait for their plant to grow tall. Others keep it small on a desk.

Why It Matters

The trunk holds all the leaves up high. The leaves catch sunlight to make food. If the trunk is broken, the whole plant might fall over. That is why we protect the trunk. We do not want the money to drop!

A strong trunk means a happy plant.
