Why is there so much misinformation and disinformation? - BTN High?

There are so many fake stories because people want to make others believe things that aren't true, just like when someone tells you a made-up tale about your favorite toy coming alive at night.

Misinformation is like when your friend says the sky turned purple yesterday, but they didn’t check. They just thought it was fun to say.

Disinformation is more like when someone on the playground makes up a story that everyone believes, and it's not because they're trying to be nice, but because they want people to think something else.

Why People Spread Fake Stories

Sometimes, fake stories spread fast because they're exciting or make you feel happy or scared. Like when your teacher tells you there’s a monster in the hallway, and suddenly everyone is running out of class!

Also, some people use fake news on purpose, like if they want to trick others into thinking something that's not true. It's like leaving a trail of breadcrumbs to lead someone away from the real treasure.

It can be hard to tell what’s real and what’s fake, but with time, you’ll learn how to spot them!
