How Eating Helps It Grow
Why Bigger Is Better
When the caterpillar is little, it needs to be big enough to turn into a butterfly. Butterflies have wings, and those wings need space to grow, just like how you need room in your backpack for all your toys.
After eating so much, the caterpillar makes a cocoon around itself. Inside that cocoon, it changes from a wormy little bug into a beautiful butterfly, kind of like when you put on a costume and become someone new.
Examples
- A very hungry caterpillar eats a lot of food to grow bigger before turning into a butterfly.
- The caterpillar needs lots of energy for its transformation into a butterfly.
- Eating all those fruits helps the caterpillar become strong enough for metamorphosis.
