Space is cold because there's not much around to keep it warm. Think about being outside on a winter day, if you're all by yourself, you feel the cold more. In space, there are no buildings, no people, and no air to help carry heat. So even though the sun might be nearby, most of space is just really, really far away from anything hot. It's like being alone in a big freezer.
Examples
- A snowman in space would freeze instantly because there’s nothing to warm it up.
- Standing next to the sun feels like being in a sauna, but walking away from it is like stepping into an ice cube.
- Your cup of hot cocoa would cool down super fast if you took it to space.
