Why the Roofs Fell Off
Imagine a house that has never been painted, never had a new roof, and no one lived in it. That’s what happened to Greek temples. They were built with strong stones, but time made them weak. Rain seeped in, wind knocked on the walls, and people would sometimes even sit or stand on parts of the temple, like walking all over your toy box.
What Happened Next
When the roof started to fall apart, no one was there to put it back together. It’s like if you left a big tent outside in the rain for years, eventually, it just couldn’t hold up anymore. So today, we see only the columns and walls of these temples, but not the roofs, because they are long gone, just like your favorite toy that fell apart and never got fixed. It’s like your favorite toy was left outside for so long it just fell apart, Greek temples lost their roofs because they were used for hundreds of years and didn’t get fixed.
