Why is Alaska a Part of the US?

Alaska became part of the United States because it was given to them as a gift.

Imagine you have a big toy box full of your favorite toys, and one day, your friend gives you an extra special toy, that’s what happened to the US. A long time ago, Russia had Alaska, but they wanted to make friends with America, so they gave it to them.

Think about when you get a birthday gift. You're super happy because it's something new and exciting. The US felt that way too, getting Alaska was like getting the biggest and most interesting toy in the whole room!

Russia had Alaska, but they didn’t use it very much. It was cold and far away. Giving Alaska to the US helped them make friends and save some money. It was a smart move, kind of like trading your old, worn-out backpack for a brand-new one.
