Why good leaders make you feel safe | Simon Sinek | TED?

A good leader is like a strong umbrella on a rainy day, they help you stay dry and calm, even when everything around you is messy.

Imagine you're playing in the park, and suddenly it starts to rain. You don’t know where to go or what to do. But then your friend, let’s call them the leader, opens up their big umbrella and says, “Don’t worry, we’ll stay dry together.” That makes you feel safe and happy because you know they’re looking out for you.

Good leaders make people feel safe, just like that umbrella. They don’t always have all the answers, but they act like they care about what happens next. They listen, they help, and they remind everyone that even when things get tricky, they're not alone.

What Makes a Leader Feel Like an Umbrella?

Think of your parents or teachers, sometimes they’re like that umbrella too. When you’re scared or confused, they calm you down and say “We can do this together.” That’s leadership in action: making people feel strong and supported.

A good leader doesn’t have to be the loudest or the smartest person in the room, just the one who makes others feel brave enough to keep going. A good leader is like a strong umbrella on a rainy day, they help you stay dry and calm, even when everything around you is messy.
