What Wheels Are Good For
Wheels are like ice skates, they help you move quickly on flat surfaces. That’s why cars use wheels. But animals need to be able to run, climb trees, and dig in the dirt. Wheels would get stuck in mud or grass, just like ice skates wouldn’t work on a bumpy sidewalk.
What Animals Need
Animals are like robots with legs, they can go anywhere, even up a hill or through a forest. They also need to stop quickly and change direction, which is easier with feet than with wheels. If an animal had wheels, it would be hard for it to jump over rocks or swim in the water, like how you can’t skate underwater.
So, while wheels are super helpful for cars and bikes, animals keep their legs, because they need to move in a wild world, not just on smooth roads.
Examples
- A child asks why a tortoise doesn't have wheels to roll faster.
- Why don’t spiders use wheels to move around?
- Imagine if humans had wheels instead of legs.
