What Makes Rain Smell?
When rain starts to fall, it travels through the air and hits the ground. It goes over trees, grass, and even rocks, all of which have their own special smells. The rain then carries those smells up into the air again, so when we breathe in the rain, we also breathe in the scents from everything it touched.
Why Does Rain Sometimes Smell Like Earth?
Imagine you're walking through a muddy park after a long dry period. You step on wet soil and feel it squish under your feet, that's how rain feels when it hits the ground. The smell of wet earth is like the smell of fresh cookies coming out of the oven, it’s a new, clean, happy smell.
Sometimes, rain can also pick up smells from flowers, leaves, or even cars, making the air smell different each time it rains. It's like rain is wearing a perfume that changes with every place it visits!
