Why does daylight saving time exist and why is it controversial?

Daylight Saving Time is like moving your clock forward so you can have more sunshine in the afternoon, just like when you shift your toys to make more room for a new one.

Why it was created

Long ago, people noticed that during summer, the sun stayed up later. So they thought, “What if we made our clocks say it’s a little later than it really is?” That way, daylight would last longer in the evening, and people could enjoy more time outside before bedtime.

Why some people don’t like it

But changing the clock every few months can be confusing. It’s like if your teacher suddenly said, “Today we start class 1 hour later!” Some kids get tired or grumpy because their body clocks are confused. Also, not everyone agrees on when to change the time, some places like it, and others think it’s more trouble than it’s worth.

That’s why some people say, “Let’s just keep the same time all year round!”
