Imagine you're playing a game where everyone starts at different points on the track. Some people count up like 1, 2, 3, that’s like counting hours forward. Others start from 12 and go backward like 12, 11, 10, that’s like counting hours backward. That's why clocks look a little different in different parts of the world.
Why It Matters
In some countries, people use a type of clock called a 24-hour clock, where the day goes from 1 to 24. In others, they count backwards from 12 like on an old clock face, that's called the 12-hour clock. Some places even use both kinds at different times of the day!
Examples
- You wake up at 7 AM, eat lunch at 12 PM, and go to bed at 9 PM, that's using a 12-hour clock.
- Your friend in Japan tells you they're going to sleep at 23:00, that’s the same as 11 PM on your clock.
- You see a plane boarding time written as '17:00', that means 5 PM.
