Why 12-Hour or 24-Hour?
In some places, people only needed 12 hours because that was enough for the day and night. But in other places, like France, people use a full 24-hour clock from midnight to midnight, making it easier to tell what time it is without thinking about AM or PM.
A Day in Different Time Zones
Countries also split the world into pieces called time zones, so everyone can have their own local time based on how much the sun has moved.
Examples
- A French student says 14h when it’s 2 PM, using a 24-hour clock makes time easier to understand for everyone.
- If your mom uses a 12-hour clock, she might say 'Good morning at 9 AM', but you could also say 'Good morning at 09:00' if you use the 24-hour format.
