Sometimes when we're sleeping, our brains decide to talk. It's like your brain is telling a story or having a conversation without you knowing it. This happens because the part of the brain that controls speech doesn’t shut off completely during sleep.
How It Works
When you’re in light sleep, your brain might start talking, but you might not remember it later. In deep sleep, your brain is busy working hard to keep you asleep, so it usually doesn’t talk. But sometimes your brain talks even when you're deep in sleep, that's when people wake up confused and say strange things.
Examples
- Your brother starts talking about pizza while he's sleeping, even though he hasn't eaten anything all day.
- You hear your mom singing a song from her childhood during the night, but she doesn’t remember it in the morning.
- Your friend yells at their pet dog in their sleep, and they’re not even mad at the dog.
