Our brains are like a camera that takes more pictures when the lighting is good. When we're happy, our brain takes lots of clear photos to remember, but when it's sad, the pictures get blurry and fade away quickly. This happens because the parts of the brain in charge of remembering feel stronger when we’re happy.
Examples
- When you have a great birthday party, your brain takes many clear photos to remember it, but when you get in trouble at school, that moment might feel like a blurry photo.
- You remember the time you won a game more clearly than the time you lost, because winning feels happy and losing feels sad.
