We remember some dreams and forget others because of how our brain works when we wake up. When you sleep, your brain has different stages, one is called REM sleep, where most dreaming happens. When you wake up quickly in the morning, your brain doesn’t have time to save all the dream details, so they disappear like magic. But if you wake up slowly or take a little nap, sometimes dreams stay with you longer.
Examples
- When you wake up suddenly, your brain forgets some of the dream details, like when you're pulled out of a dream by an alarm clock.
- If you take a little nap in the afternoon, you might remember your dreams better because your brain has more time to process them.
- Some people remember their dreams every morning, while others only recall one or two.
