Why do we need sleep and what happens if we don't get enough?

Sleep is like giving your body and brain a chance to rest and recharge after a long day.

Imagine you're playing with your favorite toy all day, you run around, jump, laugh, and maybe even have a little tantrum. By the end of the day, you’re tired, right? That’s what happens to your brain and body when they don’t get enough sleep.

What Sleep Does

When you sleep, your brain is like a busy cleaner, it tidies up all the stuff from the day so you can be ready for tomorrow. Your body also gets to fix itself, like when you have a little scrape on your knee and it heals while you’re asleep.

What Happens If You Don’t Sleep Enough

If you don’t get enough sleep, it’s like trying to play with your toy without taking breaks, you get grumpy, forget things, and might even trip over your own feet. Your brain can’t clean up properly, so you feel confused or tired during the day.

Your body also gets a little out of shape, maybe you don’t grow as fast or have more energy to play.

So remember: sleep is like a super important part of your daily adventure!
