Why Do We Have Pi?

Pi is the secret number that tells us how big a circle is. No matter if it is a tiny cookie or a giant pizza, if you measure the distance around it and divide by the width across, you always get pi. It goes on forever without repeating! This means we can never write down its exact value, but we use 3.14 to help us bake and build. Pi connects all circles in the world together.

Imagine cutting a pizza into many thin slices. As you make more slices, they look less like triangles and more like tall rectangles. If you stack them up, they form a rectangle. The height is the radius (half the width), and the bottom length is half the circle's edge. This shows why area equals pi times radius squared.

Pi never ends because circles are smooth curves. Straight lines can be measured perfectly with simple numbers. But a curve has an infinite number of directions in just one inch! So, when you measure that curve, the numbers keep going and going.
