Why Different Taxes?
Just like you might get different chores to do depending on the day, there are different types of taxes because people pay for different things.
For example:
- If you buy candy from the store, that's like a sales tax, it helps pay for the store and the roads you walk on.
- When your parents give money to the government every month, that’s like a income tax, it helps pay for schools and hospitals.
Taxes Are Like Sharing
Sometimes, taxes are like sharing toys in a group. If everyone pays a little bit, there's enough to buy a big toy for all of you! That way, even if some people have more money than others, they still help out so the whole town can enjoy cool things together. Imagine your pocket money is like the money that grown-ups use, and sometimes they need to share some of it for things like toys, parks, or even ice cream trucks! That’s what taxes are: a way for people to help pay for stuff everyone uses.
Examples
- A child asks, 'Why do some people pay more tax than others?'
- 'Income tax takes a portion of your salary before you get paid.'
