The Earth is like a spinning top that's tilted. When one side of the Earth faces more directly toward the Sun, it gets warmer, that’s summer! When the other side faces away from the Sun, it gets colder, that’s winter!
Why It Matters
Because Earth tilts as it goes around the Sun, different parts of the world get sunlight at different angles. That’s why some places are hot while others are cold at the same time.
Examples
- You're wearing sunglasses on a hot day because your hemisphere is tilted toward the Sun.
