The Name Trouble
Have you ever seen someone you know really well but their name is hiding in your brain? It feels like the word is right there, just behind a tiny door. You can see their face clearly in your mind's eye, but the label for that face has run away.
Why It Happens
Your brain stores faces and names in different places. Think of it like a wardrobe. Your face is hanging on a hanger where you can easily see it. The name is folded up in a drawer nearby. Sometimes, your hand reaches for the face, but your mind forgets to open the drawer at the same time.
This happens because faces are unique pictures. Names are just labels we learned together with the picture. If two people have similar names or you haven't said that name aloud recently, the label gets dusty. It is not a big problem. It just means your brain is busy sorting through thousands of images every day.
Examples
- At a party you are trying to tell someone their name is Mark or Marc and you use hand gestures instead of speaking.
