Why do we dream and what is its purpose for the human mind?

Dreaming is like having a fun playtime inside your head when you're asleep.

Your brain is like a busy kid who never stops thinking, even at night. When you sleep, your brain takes a break but still plays games with the day's events. These games are called dreams. It’s like when you go to bed after playing with your toys and your brain says, “Let me play with them again in my head!”

Why We Dream

Dreaming helps your brain remember things, kind of like how you remember a fun game if you play it over and over. When you dream, your brain is sorting out what was important during the day and what wasn’t.

What Dreams Do for Your Brain

  • They help you solve problems, just like when you try to figure out how to build the tallest tower with blocks.
  • They let your brain rest by giving it a chance to take a break from thinking about all the things happening during the day, like going to school or playing with friends.

So dreaming is like a fun way for your brain to relax and learn, while you sleep!
