Why Do Volcanoes Explode So Violently?

Volcanoes explode because pressure builds up inside them, just like when you shake a bottle of soda and it explodes when you open it.

Imagine a volcano is like a big bottle full of fizzy drink, the magma (hot, bubbly liquid) is like the soda, and the gas bubbles are like the carbon dioxide in the soda. When the volcano is quiet, the lid (called the vent) is closed or barely open, it’s like a bottle with a weak cap.

But when the magma gets really hot, more gas forms inside, making the pressure go up, just like when you shake the bottle and make more bubbles. The gas pushes the magma upward like a rising tide.

Eventually, the lid can't hold back anymore, BOOM! The volcano explodes, sending out lava, rocks, and gas all over, it’s like opening a shaken soda bottle and watching it spray everywhere!

Sometimes, volcanoes even erupt with so much force that they throw big chunks of rock into the air, just like when you pop open a sealed bottle and some soda sprays out really fast.
