Hair is like a spring, some people have springs that are coiled, and others have springs that are straight. The shape of the hair follicle, which is where hair starts growing from under your skin, decides whether your hair will be curly or straight. If the follicle is round, the hair comes out straight; if it’s oval-shaped, the hair curves as it grows.
