Some people get freckles because their skin has a special way of catching sunlight.
Imagine your skin is like a piece of paper that turns lighter when it's near a lamp. Most people’s skin stays the same color no matter how close they are to the lamp, but some people’s papers flicker and show little dots of light when they're near the lamp, just like freckles.
Freckles happen because of something called melanin, which is like tiny paintbrushes in your skin that color it. When sunlight hits the skin, these brushes go to work, but sometimes, instead of coloring the whole paper evenly, they make little spots or dots, and those are freckles.
Why Some People Get More Freckles
Some people have more melanin brushes, so they get less freckles. Others have fewer brushes, so the sunlight can make bigger spots, that's why some people end up with lots of freckles!
When you're out in the sun, it's like turning up the lamp on your skin paper. The more time you spend near the lamp (or in the sun), the more those little dots show up, and that’s how freckles come to be!
