Why Do Some Countries Have Monarchs While Others Don't?

Imagine your school has two kinds of leaders: one is a teacher who decides everything, and the other is a group of students who vote on what happens. In some countries, there's a king or queen who leads like that teacher, they're called monarchs. Other countries let people vote for their leaders, like a class council, those are more democratic.
