Plants have green leaves because they use green to catch sunlight and turn it into food, just like how we use our hands to catch balls.
Imagine you're playing outside on a sunny day. You want to catch as many balls as you can, but if the balls were all green, it would be harder to see them against the grass. That’s kind of what happens with plants. The sunlight is like the balls, and they need something that helps them catch the sunlight.
Now, most of the sunlight is white, like a mix of different colored balls. But plants have special tools called chlorophyll, which are like green gloves that help them grab the sunlight best. That’s why leaves look green, because those green gloves are working hard!
If leaves were red, it would be like wearing red gloves to catch white balls, you’d miss out on some of the light. So plants use green instead of red, just like we pick the right color glove for the job.
