Sometimes people get stage fright because they're really scared of making mistakes in front of a lot of people. It feels like their heart is racing and they can't think straight. Even if you've done it before, your brain might still think it's the first time, so the fear comes back again.
Why does it come back?
Your brain remembers how scary it was the last time. So even though you're used to speaking in front of people, your body can get all jumpy and nervous just like before.
Examples
- A kid gets so nervous before their school play that they forget their lines.
- An actor is shaking on stage even though they've performed that role many times before.
- Someone freezes during a presentation and can't remember what they were going to say.
