Paintings seem to move when you look away because of how your eyes and brain work together. When you stare at a painting, your eyes get used to the colors and lines. Then, when you blink or glance away, your brain notices the changes more clearly, it feels like the painting is moving or changing!
Examples
- A child stares at a picture of a dancing ballerina for minutes, then blinks, suddenly the dancer looks like she’s spinning.
- Your teacher shows you an old painting on the board, after staring at it for a while, the colors seem to swirl around.
