Mountains are like big blocks of land that move and wear down over time. If you think of the Earth as having giant puzzle pieces, mountains happen when these pieces push against each other, this is called tectonic movement. But even though they're strong, mountains also get worn down by wind, rain, and ice, just like a big rock on the beach gets smoother after years in the ocean.
