What Yawning Feels Like
When you yawn, your mouth stretches open like a zipper being pulled apart. You feel sleepy or tired, and then, whoosh!, you take in a deep breath. It feels good, kind of like when you blow out all the air after blowing up a balloon.
Why We Yawn
Yawning helps our body wake up or get ready for sleep. When we yawn, we take in more oxygen and let out more carbon dioxide, it’s like giving our brain a little shake to say, “Hey, I’m here!” If you’re tired, yawning might help your brain feel fresh again.
Sometimes people copy each other when they yawn, if one person yawns, the next person might do it too! It's like when you see someone laugh and then you can’t stop laughing either. Yawning is a fun way our bodies talk to each other. Yawning is when we open our mouths wide and take a big breath, and it happens to people all around the world!
