Why do humans have an appendix if it has no obvious use?

Humans have an appendix even if it doesn’t seem to do much because sometimes things are like extra toys, you don’t need them all the time, but they can be really helpful when something goes wrong.

What is the appendix?

The appendix is a small, tube-like organ near your stomach. It’s kind of like having an extra pocket in your pants, it doesn’t hold anything important most of the time, but if you need to store something suddenly, it can help!

Why do we have it?

Even though the appendix isn’t used every day, it might be useful when your body is fighting off a bug or germ. It acts like a backup storage for healthy cells that can help fix your intestine if it gets hurt.

Sometimes, the appendix gets blocked and causes pain, that’s called appendicitis, but most of the time, it just sits there quietly, waiting to be useful someday!
