Why do honey bees dance? | We The Curious?

Honey bees dance to tell their friends where the best flowers are.

Imagine you're playing hide and seek, and when you find a really good hiding spot, you want to show your friends. That’s what honey bees do, but instead of shouting or pointing, they dance!

How the dance works

When a bee finds a flower with lots of nectar (which is like sweet juice for bees), it goes back to the hive and starts doing a special kind of dance.

  • If the flowers are nearby, the bee does a little wiggly dance called a round dance. It’s like when you spin around to show your friends how fun the game is.
  • If the flowers are far away, the bee does something called a waggle dance. This tells other bees exactly how far and which direction they need to go, it's like giving them directions on paper!

So, when honey bees dance, they're just sharing the best spots for food with their friends, in the most fun way possible!
