Employees become disengaged when they feel like no one is paying attention to them, just like when you're playing a game and your friend forgets about you.
Imagine you're building the tallest tower with blocks, and everyone around you is excited, stacking their blocks high. But you’re the only one left with tiny blocks, and no one asks if you need help or even notices you're trying really hard. That's how some employees feel, ignored and overlooked, which makes them lose interest in what they're doing.
Why It Happens
Sometimes, bosses are too busy to talk to their team members, it’s like when your teacher is rushing through the day and doesn’t even say “hello” at the start of class. Or maybe there's no fun or new things to do, so work starts to feel boring, just like eating the same snack every day.
What It Feels Like
Being disengaged feels a bit like being stuck in the middle of a big crowd, but no one sees you, it’s lonely and confusing. When people don't feel seen or valued, they stop caring about doing their best, just like how you might stop trying to win when your friend forgets the rules of the game.
Examples
