Why Do Chameleons Change Color?

You might think chameleons change color to hide, but they actually do it mostly to talk to each other. Think of their skin like a color-changing shirt that shows how they feel.

Inside their skin, there are tiny light boxes called chromatophores. Some hold red, some hold yellow, and some hold blue. When the chameleon wants to show a color, it moves these boxes around, like mixing paint.

Fun fact: They also have a layer of crystals that bounces light!
