Why Do Cats Sleep So Much?

Cats are not just lazy; they are mini lions getting ready for a hunt.

Why So Much Sleep?

Cats spend most of their day sleeping because being awake takes a lot of energy. In the wild, cats need to be sharp when they chase food. Sleeping helps them save energy for those quick bursts of speed.

Two Types of Sleep

Cats have two kinds of sleep:

  • Light Sleep: They doze lightly and can wake up fast if they hear a noise.
  • Deep Sleep: They dream, twitch their paws, and drool. This is when their body repairs itself.

Most cats are crepuscular, meaning they are most active at dawn and dusk. When the sun goes down or comes up, they zoom around like crazy. But once the excitement is over, they crash back into bed for more rest.

Think of a cat as a superhero who spends most time resting in their lair so they can be super fast when it matters.
