Black holes are like super-strong vacuum cleaners in space. When a really big star runs out of fuel, it collapses and becomes so dense that not even light can escape from it. Imagine dropping a beach ball into the ocean, it would float. But if you dropped something as heavy as Earth into the ocean, it would sink all the way to the bottom. A black hole is like that super-heavy object.
