Imagine spacetime like a trampoline. When you drop a heavy ball on it, the surface bends around the ball. If something rolls close to the ball, it gets pulled toward it, just like how black holes ‘suck’ things in. The heavier the ball (or the black hole), the more it curves the trampoline (or spacetime). Things that get too close can't escape and fall into the center, where everything gets squished really tight.
