Why Did We Stop Using Hand-Written Receipts?

A long time ago, when you bought bread, the baker wrote down your purchase on a piece of paper by hand. Every letter was different! Today, almost all receipts are printed with the same exact letters. This change happened because machines got better at making paper and printing text quickly.

The Old Way

People used quill pens to write everything. It took time and skill. If you made a mistake, the receipt looked messy. Only rich people could afford fancy handwritten notes.

The New Way

Factories started making lots of paper and ink. Printing presses could stamp words onto paper much faster than humans writing them. Now, anyone can get a clean, neat receipt for their groceries without worrying about who wrote it.
