The American Colonies wanted to be free from England, just like a kid wants to be free from bedtime.
Like Being Told What to Do All Day
Imagine you're playing in your favorite park, and someone far away keeps telling you what game to play, how long to play it, and even when to stop. That’s what the Colonies felt like, England was telling them what to do all day, every day, without asking! They wanted to make their own rules, just like you might want to choose your own toys or snacks.
Being Treated Like a Little Brother
England also kept taking money from the Colonies, like a big brother who always takes your candy without asking. The Colonies tried being nice and paying taxes, but England didn’t stop, it was like being nagged nonstop! So finally, they said “enough is enough,” and that’s when they declared independence, meaning they wanted to be their own country, no more bedtime rules or candy theft!
