Why Did the Cold War End?

The Cold War ended because two big teams finally agreed to stop fighting each other.

Like a Long School Rivalry

Imagine you and your best friend are in a school rivalry, every year, you both try to win the most points in class, sports, and even lunchtime games. It goes on for years, and nobody really wants to be friends again. That's like the Cold War: the United States and the Soviet Union were like two rival schools trying to prove who was better, but they never actually fought each other directly.

A New Friend Makes a Difference

Then one day, your best friend comes over and says, "Hey, let’s just stop this rivalry." That's what happened in real life, leaders from both sides made new friends, talked things out, and realized fighting wasn’t as fun as being friends. They even had some cool meetings where they shook hands and smiled!

That’s why the Cold War ended, because both teams finally said, "Let’s just be friends again."
