Why did the Berlin Wall fall and what was its impact?

The Berlin Wall fell because people wanted to be together again after being separated for a long time.

Imagine you and your best friend are in two different rooms at school, and there's a big, tall wall between you, you can’t see each other or talk to each other. That’s what happened in Berlin: the city was split into two parts, East Berlin and West Berlin, by a huge wall.

Why the Wall Was Built

The wall was built so that people from East Berlin couldn't easily leave and go to West Berlin, it was like having a giant fence you had to climb over or dig under. The leaders of East Germany wanted to keep things calm and stop people from leaving.

What Happened When the Wall Fell

One day, the guards at the wall stopped checking people’s papers, it was like the gate was opened! People started walking through the gap in the wall, and soon, everyone was excited. They danced on top of the wall and celebrated together.

The fall of the Berlin Wall meant that East Berlin and West Berlin could be one again, it was a big step toward making life better for many people.
