Why Did the Ancient Egyptians Mummify Their Kings?

Imagine you're a king who wants to live forever. The ancient Egyptians thought that if your body stayed strong, your spirit would stay with you, and then you'd rule the afterlife too. So they wrapped you up like a big present, used special spices, and dried you out so you wouldn't rot. That's mummification! It was like a super fancy way of saying 'goodbye' but also 'see you later'.
