Long ago, in a land called Ancient Egypt, the most powerful people were called pharaohs. When they died, they sometimes took their favorite pets with them to the afterlife. This was because the Egyptians believed that pets helped people live happy lives, and they wanted their pets to continue helping them even after death.
To make sure their pets could go to the afterlife too, the Egyptians would mummify them, a special process where they wrapped them up in cloth like a big hug. That way, their beloved animals were ready for life after death.
Examples
- A cat was wrapped up like a present before being buried with its owner.
- A bird was found mummified and tucked into the corner of an ancient Egyptian tomb.
